Summary :
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah revolves around the happenings of Gokuldham Co-Operative Housing Society in Mumbai, a society well known for its cultural diversity and the day-to-day life of its members who come from different backgrounds and cultures.
The characters include the families of the Gadas, a Kutchi Gujarati Jain family; the Bhides, a Marathi family; the Hathis, a North Indian family, Sodhis, a Punjabi family with a Sikh husband and a Parsi wife; the Iyers, a Tamil husband and a Bengali wife;the Mehtas, a Gujarati family.There are solo recurring characters such as Patrakar Popatlal Pandey from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Abdul, the owner of the small general store in the society; Sunderlal who is Gujarati who lives in Ahmedabad, also brother in law of Jethalal Gada; Bawri, who is Bagha's love interest; Natwarlal Prabhashankarlal Udhiawala/ Nattu kaka, Jethalal's Shop Manager and his Nephew Bageshwar Dadukh Udhaiwala / Bagha, Pinku, Matka King Mohanlal, reporter Rita Sharma etc. The stories shown in the episodes are associated with these characters who often get trapped in inconvenience usually surfacing from petty daily-life activities or any similar task. Such troubles prompt the characters to carry out some naive yet undesirable activities, arousing mirth among the watchers. Notwithstanding the adversities faced by the characters, a settlement to the problem is always found which gives insight to some moral lesson to the characters, and in some cases broadly to the watchers as well, in certain Social issues.
Each character is singular in their nature, discernible in speech, gait,custom etc. which are sometimes comically portrayed. The families are unified by a strong spirit of being the residents of the same Society, who offer every possible help to its distraught member. Typically, every character of the show is compassionate towards one another. Another recurring trait is that almost every character runs his/her own business.
